Welcome to Salem, New Hampshire.

Salem is a town located in Rockingham County, New Hampshire. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 28,112. Salem is a PRIME Commuter location very close to Routes 93 and 495. We are less than an hour from Boston, less than an hour from ME, and just a bit over an hour to the Lakes Region!

We have golf courses, ice rinks, parks and recreation, lakes and of course shopping! Salem is still basically a rural, predominantly residential and totally charming New England community, however, the schools, the recreation, the business, the activity and the town services are all excellent, as they must be to satisfy more than 25,000 residents. Salem NH is the home of Canobie Lake Park, Rockingham Park Shopping center, The Mall at Rockingham Park, numerous restaurants and small business's.

There are six elementary schools and one junior high school, which received the Presidential "Blue Ribbon Award for Excellence in Education" in 1990. The high school includes a new, well equipped vocational education facility and offers Continuing Education courses in the evening. Salem also has one parochial school system, several private Christian schools, and several kindergarten and private nursery schools. Branches for Hesser, Franklin Pierce and New Hampshire Colleges are located in Salem.

Four miles east on Route 111 is a privately owned complex of strange stone structures bearing similarities to early stone work found in western Europe. They suggest an ancient culture may have existed here more than 2,000 years ago. Sometimes called "American's Stonehenge", these intriguing chambers hold a fascinating story and could be remnants of a pre-Viking or even Phoenician civilization.
